Amazon set-top box on building television

Amazon plans to implement a set-top box to make it easier for customers to stream video to a TV, according to sources.
The device due to debut later this year and will offer access to Amazon's growing demand directory that includes LoveFilm UK.

It will intensify the Internet-store of rivalry with Apple, which already sells the Apple TV set-top boxes to make it easier for streaming video from iTunes, and rumors about preparation to the introduction of full-connected TVs.

Amazon plans to implement

It will also set the Amazon against Roku, that makes the device, similar to existing, Apple TV, Microsoft and Sony, who plan to advance their next game consoles as home entertainment centers.

Too late they'll never catch up with the major players in this space, they will always out innovate Amazon and pull ahead with market share... pity though, if they'd gotten into the game earlier is might have been different.

This market needs to mature more. People are ripe for the right sort of innovation when it does.

Surely its just around the corner, the hardware technology must be ready, it's about getting the software right.

Apple have hardly made a dent in this market, I don't think they will get much further.

Amazon with their ownership of  I Love Film though stand in a very strong position. Although personally I would prefer a box that would also run Netflix so I could swap whenever I want.  I have used both services in the past.

In addition Spotify is reported to be starting a TV/Film service and I cant see Google want to be left on the sidelines.

My youview box currently satisfies me with the internet players from BBC, ITV, channel 4 and 5  but doesn't do Youtube. It has some paid content provided on demand but nothing like the major services.

I guess what we all want is a box that sits under the TV that brings all the internet services to the big screen for about £100 - £200.

Before that happens will probably only consider spending under £100 as the device will be only taking up temporary residence.

Wise Words

"When we finally presented it at the shareholders' meeting, everyone in the auditorium stood up and gave it a five-minute ovation. What was incredible to me was that I could see the Mac team in the first few rows. It was as though none of us could believe that we'd actually finished it. Everyone started crying."

The wrong direction

Although this is the first post about my four hour workweek, it did not just start for me. If you read the about me section, that was almost a year ago. So how did I do? Well, I've made some progress. By falling and standing up. By making decisions and ignoring some. After my breakdown I...

My worry about losing the Queen

My worry about losing the Queen would be that she would still be entitled to take money from the Crown Estates. I hope when negotiations are taking place after the referendum, that the SNP would not go soft on this and on a number of other matters, like being over generous with the entitlement...

How to get indoor an orchids to grow and bloom?

The thing which, apart from Climate Gate, really knocked them sideways was that bitterly cold December 2013.
